何を当たり前のことを言ってるんだと言われそうですが、暗記と理解の違いって

実は難しいですよ。はっきり言うと、日本の教育はほとんどが暗記で、理解はさせていないです。

これは完全に私の持論ですが、理解っていうのは相手に伝えることはできないんですよ。

理解させるって言いますが、これは教える側が自分の考え方を相手に暗記させているだけで、相手は教える側の理解を暗記しているだけなんです。

ではどうやったら相手は理解するのか、その考え方を相手は暗記します。そして、その暗記した内容を自分の解釈で分解し、再構築して出来上がった考え方をもって理解したと言えるのです。よって理解するとは、内在的なものであって、外部から与えられるものではなく、自ら作り出すものなのです。

例えば、日本の金利が上がると円高になると教えるとしましょう。この原理も金利が上がると日本の銀行に預金するのが魅力的になるので、他国から日本円に預金する人が増える。結果、円を買う人が増えるので、円の価格が上がり円高になると教えるとしましょう。

ほとんどの人はこれを暗記して理解したと思い込みます。実際は、相手の言ったことや考え方を暗記しているだけです。

もう一歩踏み込んで、これらの暗記した内容を分解し、再構築して自分なりの考え方を構築すれば、これが理解したに変わります。

例えば金利が上がると、預金してたほうがいいからと思って、モノを買わずに貯金するよね。そうすると物が売れなくて、価格が下がるよね。日本の物が軒並み安くなると、海外の人は日本の物をほしくなるよね。そうすると円を買って、その円で物を買うよね。円がたくさん買われるから円高になるよね。みたいに金利が上がると円高になることを別の観点から理解します。

学校の教員においても誤解されている方が多く、今の教育においても筆記テストで点数をつけ、答えを配付して解法や考え方を暗記させる教育が主流となっておりますが、最も大切なことは自分の頭で考え、自分なりの結論を導き出すことです。

エッセンスは哲学に近いです。

例えば方程式でX=5などの答えの導き方を暗記し、問題を解いていきますが、なぜ方程式を学ぶ必要があるのか、方程式は実際の生活でどのように役に立つのか、そもそもがXなどの文字を使って難しそうにしていますし、移行などの言葉を使って左辺と右辺から同じ数をマイナスするとか難しい操作ばかり教えるから子供は数学が嫌いになるんです。

例えばある数に３を加えると５になるけど、ある数っていくつ？と聞くと、小学１年生でもある数は２だと分かるはずです。

これってある数＝ＸとすればＸ+3＝５で、Ｘ＝２を言葉で説明しただけです。方程式のエッセンスは分からない数があって、その数を求める作業をするだけです。

日常生活で良くありますよね。例えば、１００枚入りのマスクがあって、今残数が２０枚しかなく、友達と２人で共有で使っていて、自分が３０枚しか使っていないことが分かった時に友達が何枚使ったか知りたいとします。

方程式のエッセンスが分かっていると、すぐに友達が５０枚使ったと分かります。

これも方程式通りに解くと、Ｘ＝５０となります。

しかし、方程式を自分なりに理解した私は、この話を聞いた時に、もともとあった１００枚から残数と自分が使った数を引けば、友達の使った枚数が算出できることを知っているので、１００ー２０ー３０＝５０で求めます。別にＸなんて使いません。答えを導き出すプロセスは方程式の解法を暗記しましたが、今は自分なりの理解で解いています。理解するとはこうゆうことです。

私は理解することとはタンパク質の分解とよく似ていると思います。

人間が牛肉を食べたら、牛肉のタンパク質を直接吸収することはできません。

体は消化というプロセスで、牛肉のタンパク質を粉々に分解してアミノ酸にします。

そして代謝というプロセスで、アミノ酸を自分の体で吸収できる配列でつなぎ合わせて、自分だけのオリジナルのタンパク質を再構築します。そして初めて牛肉のタンパク質を吸収できるのです。

この話って暗記と理解の話に非常によく似ています。

他人の考えを取りこんだ時、自分の考えとしては決して吸収できませんので、暗記という形で体の中にとどめます。次に消化のプロセスで暗記した内容を自分なり解釈していきます。

そして解釈がすべて終わったら、その考え方を自分なりの考え方に再構築します。これが代謝のプロセスです。

この一連の作業の中で、人は難しい理論や考え方を理解できるのです。

学校教育は暗記の部分に重きを置いているので、受験では、学校や塾などで学んだ方法を一生懸命暗記して、その暗記した方法で難しい問題を解いているのです。

確かに一見頭がよさそうに見えますが、このような暗記の勉強しかしてこないと知識は

豊富なのですが、実際に学んだことが使えません。

暗記と比べ理解することはとても時間もかかり苦しいことですが、生涯役に立つのは、理解したことばかりなのです。
